Biochemical Changes in CO Poisoning Blood During Storage

Abstract
To confirm the component changes in CO poisoned blood during storage 12 pints of healthy ACD-stored blood was divided into 2 parts anaerobically and stored at 2-60C.
One part(control group) was not treated. The other part(CO poisoning group) was treated with CO gas. (30 ml/100 ml blood)
During the storage of blood pH, pC02, p02 and CO-Hb were checked every other day for 35 days and 2, 3-DPG, Na+, K+, and glucose were checked every other day for 21 days in both groups.
The results were as follows.
1) pH was more decreased in control group than CO poisoning group during storage. (0. 05 2) pC02 was higher in control group than CO poisoning group during storage (p<0.001), but there was no significant change with storage in both groups.
3) PO2 was maximum on 23rd day of storage in control group, while maximum on 11th day of storage in CO poisoning group.
4) CO-Hb concentration was very stable(about 60%) during storage in CO poisoning group.
5) 2, 3-DPG in whole blood was almost samely decreased in both groups with storage.
6) Na+ in plasma was no significant change in both groups.
7) K+ in plasma was more rapidly increased in CO poisoning group than control group during storage. It seemed that RBC in CO poisoning group was more rapidly destroyed than control group.
8) Glucose in plasma was almost samely decreased in both groups.
